Bridging data and decision-making: Andrew Banasiewicz’s vision for preparing future leaders

With a distinguished career spanning corporate analytics, academic leadership and consultancy, Andrew Banasiewicz joins Brown’s School of Professional Studies as Professor of the Practice of Business Analytics.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — The School of Professional Studies welcomes Andrew Banasiewicz, Ph.D. as Professor of the Practice of Business Analytics as well as academic director of the Master’s in Business Analytics (MBAn) and Master’s in Management (MiM) online programs.

Banasiewicz brings nearly two decades of corporate leadership in business analytics and 15 years of experience in teaching and academic administration. Before joining Brown, he served as professor and academic director at New York University while also founding Erudite Analytics, a consultancy helping organizations make smarter, data-driven decisions.

Alongside his professional work, he has authored several books, including “Probabilistic Benchmarking” (2024) and “Data Analytic Literacy” (2023) and has contributed widely to research that bridges business practice and academic scholarship.

Outside of work, Banasiewicz is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys scuba diving, endurance sports and exploring nature — interests he says reflect the curiosity and perseverance he brings to his professional and academic life.

Expanding Brown’s mission through innovative programs

In his new role, Banasiewicz leads Brown’s online MBAn and MiM programs, which he sees as central to preparing future leaders. Both programs build on Brown’s mission of expanding access to education that is both rigorous and relevant.

The MBAn program equips professionals with analytical and computational skills to turn complex data into actionable insights. The MiM program emphasizes critical thinking and applied learning in organizational management for emerging  professionals seeking to accelerate their leadership trajectory.

Leading through collaboration

Banasiewicz believes leadership is about inspiring, not directing. “I strive to create an environment where every team member feels valued and can contribute fully,” he said.

He emphasizes leading by example and fostering a culture where open and honest communication is the norm.

“ I strongly believe in creative problem solving and encourage diversity of approaches and perspectives ”

“I want each team member to feel empowered to bring their best ideas forward and to challenge assumptions in pursuit of better solutions. Collaboration isn’t just about working together — it’s about learning from one another, growing together and finding the most effective and rigorous ways to solve complex problems.” he added.

Preparing leaders for tomorrow

As both a scholar and practitioner, Banasiewicz closely follows the ways technology is reshaping business and education. His research, “Assessment of Higher Learning in the Age of AI,” explores how generative and agentic artificial intelligence is transforming workplaces and classrooms.

“Organizations need employees who can navigate these tools confidently, but at the same time, higher education must go beyond technical skills to foster critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving,” he said.

Under his leadership, the MBAn and MiM programs are poised to meet the demands of today’s fast-changing business world, integrating emerging technologies while preserving Brown’s hallmark of rigorous thinking.

“Our goal is to prepare learners to lead with insight, creativity and confidence — ready to tackle the challenges of the future.”
