Through the lens: JSW touches down in Providence

Executives from JSW traveled from India to Brown for a custom executive education program focused on leadership and collaboration. During their visit, participants joined interactive sessions led by Brown faculty, explored strategies for problem-solving and applied theory to real-world business challenges.

Leaders from JSW, one of India’s largest conglomerates, visited Brown University for a week-long residential session as part of the advanced leadership development program. The initiative, now in its fifth cohort, is a collaboration between JSW and Brown University and was founded by Brown alumnus Parth Jindal. This year’s group included 20 senior leaders from five JSW divisions, each with an average tenure of 12 years.

The program’s faculty lead, Jason Harry, oversaw the six-month curriculum, providing continuity across all sessions. During the residential week, the most intensive portion of the program, participants learned from Brown faculty, including Associate Professor of the Practice of Leadership Robin Rose, focusing on four leadership competencies: developing people, collaborating effectively, deciding decisively and delivering results.

Participants strengthened cross-unit relationships through group assignments and an individual action learning project, designed to apply classroom lessons to real challenges at JSW. They also took part in experiential learning activities such as the pit crew exercise, which emphasized teamwork, communication and decision-making under pressure.

Highlights of the week included a campus tour led by Brendan McNally, program director of the IE Brown Executive MBA program, and a visit to Greentown Labs in Somerville, Massachusetts. The program concluded with a certificate ceremony recognizing each participant’s achievement.
