The Brown University School of Professional Studies and School of Engineering proudly welcomed the Brown Executive Master in Science and Technology Leadership (EMSTL) Class of 2020 to campus this week. They began their 16-month journey at a Brown University convocation ceremony where they walked through Brown’s iconic Van Wickle Gates, one of the University’s most revered traditions reserved only for students, to mark the beginning and end of their Brown experience.
Members of the Class of 2020 are poised to propel their careers forward as part of a highly intimate and curated executive master program with leading Brown faculty in Brown’s top-ranked technology, science, economics and humanities departments. These students average 14 years of professional experience across ten industry sectors including, biotech, healthcare, software, manufacturing, telecom, and aerospace.
Class of 2020: 60% Women and 40% Men
With 60% women and 40% men, the class impressively surpasses the 50/50 gender split that tech industries seek today. Collectively the Class of 2020 comprises a dedicated tightly knitted braintrust for the advancement of each others’ careers through the program and as alumni.
The keynote speech by Cliff Dutton, Epiq CIO and Brown alum, set the tone for a leadership program designed to meld core business curriculum with technology and intensive, personalized leadership development. In an Epiq press release announcing his keynote, Dufton shared:
It’s an honor to be invited to speak at my alma mater, said Dutton. I’m a champion of embracing emerging technologies and the opportunities they present for business and technology innovation. Sharing my experiences with these already accomplished professional students pursuing an advanced degree in science and technology leadership is one small way I can give back to Brown.
During their first week-long, on-campus session, EMSTL students dive into intensive coursework with Brown’s world-class faculty on game theory, global supply chains, the theory and practice of effective leadership, and strategy and finance. Students also begin EMSTL’s intensive leadership training program to hone their leadership styles in a signature series of one-on-one executive coaching sessions with experts in communications, reflective writing, and professional development based on a 360 assessment.
Find out how you can get a life-long braintrust with industry’s most promising engineering, science, and technology professionals to take your career to the next level.
