Biography

Why did you choose this Master's program?
After moving to the U.S. from Germany and working in the New England startup scene for several years, I was seeking a program that would help me address the leadership challenges I encountered in both Europe and the U.S. and provide the skills needed to step into leadership roles. Brown’s hybrid, part-time program allowed me to continue working while earning a degree. The applied classes, with a focus on tech leadership, were exactly what I was looking for to further my career.

What made Brown's program different from other programs you considered?
Brown’s program stands out for its unique focus on technology leadership, recognizing that effective leadership goes beyond just technical skills. Having experienced the gap in leadership within the tech industry firsthand, I was drawn to a program that actively addresses this challenge. The curriculum emphasizes not only innovation but also the skills needed to lead effectively.

What did you enjoy most about your program?
The best part of the program has been the incredible people I’ve met and the personal growth I’ve experienced. The kindness and openness of my peers have challenged me to see beyond my own view on things and consider new perspectives. The intense time we’ve spent together has fostered deep connections and meaningful discussions. This journey has also made me reflect on the kind of leader I want to become, shaping my values and approach to leadership.

What was your primary academic area of interest?
At the start of the program, my academic interests were primarily in communication and finance. Over time, my focus evolved toward leading a company’s vision and culture to drive long-term growth and success. This shift has deepened my understanding of how strong leadership shapes an organization’s future.

What were your postgraduate goals?
My postgraduate goals focus on applying and refining my leadership skills while staying true to my values. I see my Critical Challenge Project as a long-term investment in my career, guiding my path forward. Beyond personal growth, I aim to drive meaningful change in the tech industry by fostering better leadership and innovation.

What did you like most about Providence?
Providence has an amazing food scene with plenty of great restaurants for anyone who loves good food. As a European, I appreciate how walkable and bike-friendly the city is, making it easy to explore. The beautiful Brown University campus adds to the city’s charm, creating a vibrant and inspiring atmosphere.

What advice would you give to prospective applicants?
My advice is to stay open to learning and growing in ways you might not expect. This program challenged me not only to develop applied skills but also to evolve personally and expand my perspectives. Embracing new ideas and perspectives will make your journey even more rewarding.
