Biography

Abraham Dejene, MPH, MBA, RYT is a dedicated meditation and yoga teacher with a profound commitment to fostering healing, resilience, and well-being. With a unique blend of academic and professional expertise, Abraham holds a Master of Public Health from Brown University, where he was part of the inaugural cohort specializing in mindfulness. He is also currently pursuing a Master’s in Counseling at Northwestern University, expanding his ability to support individuals and communities through holistic approaches to mental health and well-being.

Abraham's spiritual journey includes time spent in Northern Thailand, where he immersed himself in Eastern Philosophy, deepening his understanding and expertise in mindfulness. Currently, he leads transformative meditation and yoga retreats across East Africa and facilitates a mindfulness teacher training program at the Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi, equipping participants with tools for resilience and healing.

Before coming to Brown, Abraham earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland, where he cultivated skills in leadership, program management, and community engagement. This foundation has been instrumental in his ability to design and deliver impactful mindfulness programs across diverse populations.

As a Certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Teacher and Trainer, Abraham is affiliated with the Mindfulness Center at Brown University and the School of Professional Studies. He is also an Adjunct Faculty member at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, where he designs and delivers mindfulness interventions tailored to underserved communities. Through his leadership in programs like the Mindful of Race series at Harvard University, he fosters meaningful dialogues around racial identity, healing, and resilience.

Beyond teaching, Abraham is an active researcher exploring the intersection of mindfulness and public health. His work at Brown University and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine focuses on the application of mindfulness practices to support people of color, addressing stress and fostering resilience. His efforts have extended to underserved communities, introducing mindfulness and yoga practices in juvenile detention centers, community organizations, and public schools.

With a steadfast dedication to bridging ancient traditions with contemporary needs, Abraham combines his diverse academic background with his mindfulness expertise to empower individuals and communities. His work ensures equitable access to mindfulness, cultivating awareness, compassion, and deeper connections across varied populations.
