School of Professional Studies welcomes accomplished learning and development leader, Lori Herz

The newly appointed director of open enrollment and custom education is poised to grow Brown University’s executive education portfolio — designing and delivering innovative training and development opportunities for individuals, organizations and the workforce of the future.

PROVIDENCE, RI [Brown University] For over 26 years, Lori Herz has cultivated long-standing relationships and designed programming for organizations in the corporate, governmental, non-profit and educational sectors. 

photo of Lori HerzThroughout her career, Herz has demonstrated versatility and depth, excelling across various domains in learning and development. She not only has an extensive background developing and delivering curriculum in technology, leadership and a myriad of other soft skills, Herz has experience facilitating strategic planning and large retreats, conducting needs assessment and program evaluation as well as coaching and mentoring clients. Most recently, she led a team at the University of Rhode Island, overseeing the inception and implementation of programs for a variety of clients.

Now, as the Director of Open Enrollment and Custom Education at the School of Professional Studies (SPS), Herz will leverage her expertise in the field to grow Brown’s existing portfolio of non-credit programming while also partnering with industry leaders to meet their training needs. Ultimately, empowering our workforce with new skills to make an impact.

Sandra Smith, associate dean of executive education at SPS said Herz’s nearly three decades in the learning and development space, coupled with her network of industry associations made her an ideal fit for the role.

“Lori’s extensive experience delivering professional development and training programs will support the School’s mission to bring Brown’s unique and innovative learning opportunities to new learners across the globe,” Smith said. “I look forward to working with her to build new partnerships with both local and international organizations to reach diverse learners at all levels who seek to sharpen their knowledge with Brown.” 

Herz's success also extends to actively participating in workforce development initiatives that unite diverse organizations to address shared requirements, such as implementing leadership development programs for succession planning. Her outreach plan includes exploring these opportunities.

“I aspire to broaden the scope of our offerings to incorporate other academic disciplines in an effort to take learning to the next level or meet an expressed organizational need.” Herz continued, "I will strive to grow the executive education and custom program portfolio over the coming years in a way that honors the history, reputation and priorities of Brown University — offering programs that are truly innovative, thought provoking and help individuals and organizations make a difference in the world.”
