The events included in this schedule are of particular interest to the students, alumni and guests of the School of Professional Studies (SPS). There are hundreds of events that occur throughout the weekend. For more comprehensive, University-wide information, please see the Commencement and also the undergraduate Reunion pages for details.

Before the weekend gets officially underway, there are a small number of individually-sponsored kick-off events scheduled.

Before the weekend activities begin, the Computer Science department and SPS are hosting a curated alumni master class with a series of distinguished lecturers. Invitation-only; RSVP requested. A Zoom link may be provided closer to the event. This event is for alumni of the EMCS Class of 2021 only.

Kasper Multipurpose Room

Any student graduating with any degree is welcome to participate (classes of 2020 and 2022).  Rainbow tassels and rainbow cords will be handed out to all participants. In order to receive a tassel and cord you must attend this event. Please complete this [RSVP Form] by midnight on Sunday, May 22nd.

Brown University Faculty Club, 1 Banister Street, Huttner Room

Join us for this alumni networking event with a cocktail hour followed by dinner. Invitation-only; RSVP requested. This event is for graduates of the EMCS Class of 2021 and the EMCS Class of 2020.

Celebratory receptions and gatherings lead up to one of Brown's most-beloved traditions – the Campus Dance!

Starr Plaza, Watson Institute, at the intersection of 111 Thayer Street and 59 Charlesfield Street

The GSC invites 2020 graduates, their friends and family, and the greater graduate school community to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2020 and 2022. Hors d’oeuvres, champagne, and a selection of non-alcoholic beverages will be served. Guests are welcome to celebrate with us up until the onset of the Campus Dance. This event is for the Graduate Class of 2020 and 2022.

College Green, College Hill

One of Brown's best-loved Reunion and Commencement traditions, Campus Dance brings people to Brown to dance the night away under a sky lit with over 600 paper lanterns. The evening joins together graduating seniors and their families, alumni of all ages and Brown faculty and staff. Everyone enjoys meeting old classmates, seeing favorite professors and being with friends. All family members and guests are welcome to attend. Tickets are required for all attendees.

The Campus Dance online box office is now open for ticket orders until May 19. After that date, tickets will be available for purchase in-person on campus. Advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended to avoid "day-of" lines.

All will see the Classes of 2020 march through the VanWickle Gates in the morning. Brown opens its doors for scholarly content, galleries, labs and showcases in the afternoon. Join SPS for a reception at 225 Dyer Street celebrating the achievements of all of our graduates.

Members of the Class of 2020 will take part in this Commencement tradition which takes them through the Van Wickle Gates and to their ceremonies. This event is for the graduate and undergraduate Class of 2020. Graduate Procession will line-up at Faunce Arch, 75 Waterman Street prior at 9:15 am.

Ruth J. Simmons Quadrangle

Graduate students who completed in October 2019, February 2020 and May 2020 will be welcomed back to campus for a ceremony that will include many of the time-honored traditions of Commencement. A procession will precede the ceremony, which will be presided over by leadership from the Graduate School and School of Professional Studies. This event is for the Graduate Class of 2020.

The pomp and circumstance continues as the graduating Classes of 2022 take their place in the procession leading to formal commencement ceremonies.

The walk through the Van Wickle Gates, one of Brown’s oldest and greatest traditions, brings together the entire Brown community. The procession steps off promptly at 9:45 am. Current 2022 graduates and thousands of undergraduate alumni participate in the procession, energized. Comfortable shoes are recommended and prepare for long periods of standing. Weekend participants not in the graduating Class of 2022, or part of an undergraduate reunion class-year are invited to watch the procession by cheering along the route. Graduate Procession will line-up on Waterman Street at 9:15 am.

Meehan Auditorium, 225 Hope Street

The 2022 graduating classes of the IE Brown Executive MBA, Master of Science in Healthcare Leadership, and Master of Science in Technology Leadership programs join all other Brown master’s students for the conferring of their degree. Seating will be ticketed at 3 guests per graduate (with the potential for a lottery of unused tickets).

The live webcast link will be provided closer to the event and the ceremony will be simulcast at a nearby location.

College Green, College Hill

Undergraduate, graduate and medical students unite on the College Green for this ceremony. President Christina H. Paxson presides, senior orations are delivered and honorary and symbolic degrees are awarded.
