Four executive degree programs, one class of transformative leaders.
We are proud to welcome graduating students, alumni, family, and friends to Providence for Brown’s 250th Commencement and Reunion Weekend to celebrate the most recent graduates from the IE Brown Executive MBA, and Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership, as well as the inaugural graduating classes from the Executive Master in Cybersecurity, and Executive Master in Science and Technology Leadership programs.
We are honored that these distinguished professionals chose Brown to gain insights from the University’s great tradition of interdisciplinary and critical thinking to go beyond conventional business models and lead business innovation.
Working with academic and industry leaders, the SPS Class of 2018 stretched their knowledge beyond their areas of expertise. They achieved this goal by studying a multidisciplinary curriculum customized for 21st century business leadership, spanning subjects such as ethnography, global marketing, the arts, disruptive technologies, finance, accounting, economics, communications, psychology, history, and entrepreneurial management.
In addition to convening on Brown’s campus in Providence, Rhode Island, students worked tirelessly online and, in the case of some of our programs, in San Francisco, California; Madrid, Spain; Seoul, South Korea; or Cape Town, South Africa.
Throughout their studies, students transferred Brown’s interdisciplinary curriculum into practice via a capstone project. Working with program peers, faculty, advisers, and perhaps with their company, students applied frameworks across disciplines to forge an innovative and executable solution to a critical challenge facing business and society today.
Prior to graduation, an impressive number of students leveraged their studies to help secure significant promotions at leading companies. They also had their work recognized by prestigious industry and academic awards. Others have used this experience to start new and exciting ventures, navigate corporate restructurings and acquisitions, and further their careers by publishing in popular industry outlets, filing patents, and presenting at leading conferences.
They achieved all these feats while moving forward with their lives — juggling work, life, family, travel and a demanding curriculum. Through engagements, marriages, family additions, and personal hardships – their resilience and dedication has truly been extraordinary.
Most importantly, the Brown University School of Professional Studies Class of 2018 achieved more than an executive master’s degree. They gained a network of outstanding peers and faculty across industries and functions. Together they create a critical flow of information between business and academia, channeling breakthrough ideas into transformative products and services.
We hope students enjoy commencement weekend which kicks off with the legendary Friday night Brown Campus Dance and ends with Sunday’s graduation procession, that includes one of the University’s oldest and most revered traditions – a concluding walk through the iconic Brown Van Wickle Gates. This year, there will also be a commencement forum, Leadership and Innovation: Women Driving Change, with an outstanding lineup of Brown executive master alumni and graduating students on the panel.
Though this promises to be a dizzying weekend of speeches, hugs, joy and dancing, we encourage the Class of 2018 not to forget the meaningfulness of all they accomplished together. We look forward to following them through their successes with future endeavors and seeing them back on campus for November’s Alumni Summit, and for many years to come.
