PROVIDENCE, RI – Jan. 23, 2018 – Brown University is pleased to announce that Ray Cotton, SVP and COO, I.T. Infrastructure, Risk, and Cybersecurity at Wells Fargo and Brown University Executive Master in Cybersecurity (EMCS) Class of 2018, has been named a finalist in the SC Awards 2018 for exemplary professional leadership in cybersecurity. Mr. Cotton was named a Student of the Year finalist in the Professional Award category of the SC Awards. Winners will be announced at the SC Awards ceremony on April 17, 2018, in San Francisco.
Now in its 21st year, SC Awards is recognized as the industry gold standard of accomplishment for cybersecurity professionals, products, and services. Winners in the Professional Award category are selected by an expert panel of judges and recognize the most talented cybersecurity professionals from end-user companies. Judges conducted in-depth analysis and considered many factors – such as applicable research, analyst reports and/or product reviews – to narrow down the field of hundreds of submissions to just the top finalists.
“The SC Award’s Professional Award category represents the highest caliber of leadership in the cybersecurity industry,” said Illena Armstrong, VP, Editorial, SC Media. “As a finalist, Mr. Cotton has shown unique creativity and passion in his approach to addressing and combating even the most challenging cybersecurity issues.”
Brown University EMCS is the first program for professionals designed to cultivate high-demand, industry executives with the unique and critical ability to devise and execute integrated, comprehensive cybersecurity strategies for nations and industries across the globe. The curriculum and hands-on, interdisciplinary approach encourages students to live at the intersection of legal, technological, and social influences to create new solutions that address cybersecurity threats.
As part of the EMCS final project, Mr. Cotton demonstrated his superior creativity and industry knowledge to form a startup company which aims to move new cyber attacks from the Dark Web to a legitimate World Wide Web address – having the potential to disrupt and/or transforms the industry.
“We commend all of our students for taking on the additional burden of a demanding Executive Master’s program to cultivate the interdisciplinary leadership skills necessary to address the severity of today’s global cybersecurity threat,” said Bernardo Palazzi, an EMCS academic director, and advisor for Ray Cotton’s EMCS Critical Challenge Project.
“Ray Cotton’s outstanding performance in the program reflects the depth of his commitment to advancing this industry now and in the future.”
